Tuko Pamoja Mkyashi is about giving people in need the dignity of self-determination and the ability to end poverty in their family and their community. Instead of building hospitals, schools, and libraries for the village, TPM will enable Mkyashi to initiate its own development projects.
The ultimate goal of TPM is to empower the village of Mkyashi to cultivate its own prosperity. TPM is about breaking away from dependence driven development strategies and giving people in need the dignity of self-determination.
Tuko Pamoja Mkyashi (TPM) – which means “We are together with Mkyashi” in Swahili – is raising money to build an ecolodge on Mount Kilimanjaro. Net income from the lodge will be put into a village fund and will be used to fund village development initiatives. A board of village members will identify the most pressing problems in the village and the best solutions to those problems. Local people will be trained how to run the lodge and will eventually take it over and run it on their own.
